Hot on the heels of the disappointment of an abandoned game versus Sunderland, our CPFC 1st years were back in action here at Booth Lane taking on Barnsley in their latest National Youth League encounter.

Palace started brightly with Magee and Stonnell causing the visitors problems at the back and their good work was rewarded when they took the lead in the 20th minute. A good combination between McNelis and Ingoldby saw the latter cross to the far post for Magee to stoop low and score with a well-placed header. CPFC went in at half time 1-0 to the good but the visitors came out fighting and equalised direct from a corner in the 56th minute to bring the game level.

A prolonged spell of pressure began to tell and Barnsley grabbed the lead shortly after with a well-struck free kick. The young Eagles side fought back to bring the game level with a brilliant header from Ellis Williamson from a corner with the game ending 2-2.

Assistant head coach George Dukes said: "A draw was probably a fair result. We started the game well but never took advantage of the chances we had and let Barnsley back into the game. The boys are doing really well in such a short space of time and will improve as the season goes on."
