Bonfire night has come and gone and now it’s time to start thinking about Christmas and all those parties and social gatherings you have got planned.

You have already seen the college prospectus so you might be thinking, ‘Why do I need to go to an open event?’ Even if you know what you want to do, we always recommend coming along to see for yourself so you can get an idea at first-hand what college is really like.

What you will find when you come through the doors is a vibrant scene, buzzing with people all keen to advise and help, including current students to give you the inside track and tutors eager to enthuse you as you prepare to start the next chapter in your story.

All of the college’s buildings are contemporary and have been rebuilt at a cost of millions in the last five years. You can walk around the full circle at Booth Lane, a distance of 335 metres, all under cover and indoors. We once staged a race around the entire ground floor to celebrate completing the new building!

As you move around the College, you will see state-of-the-art-labs, workshops and studios with all the latest equipment and technology. Did you know we have our own TV and radio studios? At Booth Lane, we are proud of our well-equipped engineering workshops and you may even be able to test your skills and have a go on our virtual welding machine. If you’re into cars, this is where you will find our industry-standard spray paint booths for refinishing.

The performing arts are important to us here and on open event night, you will get a chance to see our theatre, dance studios, music booths and performance spaces. Our students love to put on shows and performances for open event visitors and show off the skills they have already learned.

We are particularly proud of our new building at Daventry which is just about to celebrate its first birthday. It’s built on a smaller scale than our main campus so you will find a friendly and supportive atmosphere where you are more likely to know everyone.

If you’re interested in hairdressing and beauty therapy, then our town centre campus at Lower Mounts is the place to go. You will see the fantastic salons, designed to recreate a genuine commercial environment.

Tours on open event nights are self-guided so you are free to wander wherever you want. But don't worry, you won’t get lost; my team and plenty of helpers will be around to point you in the right direction. You can talk to our tutors along the way and if you know what you want to do, they will make you an offer of a college place on the spot.

If you still have questions about your next steps, the Principal gives a talk in the lecture theatre that everyone can attend that explains all about how further education works and what you can expect from college life.

So even if you’re busy with social plans, there are plenty of dates to choose from this November, just check our website for the dates and times. It does help to book a ticket in advance to beat the queues but you can just come along at the last minute too. Come along and hear our stories – they may inspire you to start your own.
