Hospitality and Catering 'Pathway to Success' is a foundation vocational programme of study at Northampton College working in our modern industry standard training kitchens and acclaimed The Lane restaurant. You study a range of units including introduction to food, drink and cooking. Additionally, you will also work to develop your personal and employability skills completing units in teamwork, managing your money and oral presentation skills. Functional Skills of maths, English are also integral to the course. Enterprise is also a big feature in the course and you will be encouraged to demonstrate the skills you have learnt through fund raising activities.

    The units you will study are likely to include: Core units:

    • Certificate in introduction to the hospitality industry.
    • Food safety
    • Health and Safety
    • Certificate in employability skills. All units are subject to change and may be withdrawn.

    This course is ideal if you have an interest in food and cooking and wish to gain a Foundation Level qualification in Introduction to the Hospitality Industry

  • Your Study Programme

    We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can. All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you dont have a grade C (4) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal. Work experience will be part of your study programme and complement your college study and prepare you for employment. You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career. Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.

    • The basic principles of menu design, layout and presentation

    • How to pair food and beverages and keep up-to-date with popular trends

    • Working as part of a team to deliver specific requirements, promotions and specials to customers.

    • Work as a team to ensure customers are provided with up-to-date, helpful information and recommendations on food and beverages

    • Prepare food and beverage service areas in good time ensuring all resources are available and ready for use

    • Provide efficient, accurate and effective service in line with customer needs and brand standards.

    You will be required to purchase the required personal protective equipment discussed at your interview. Bursary support may be available.

  • Progression and Career Opportunities

    Upon successful completion of this course, you may progress to the Professional Chefs diploma at level 1.
