With a further easing of lockdown restrictions meaning we can now see up to six family and friends in the comforts of our gardens, certain year groups heading back to primary school and more shops reopening, next week feels like it could be the most ‘normal' for a while.

It's been a long time coming but finally, we're getting back on track.

The past few months have been something of a ‘day-by-day' existence. We have lived in bitesize 24-hour chunks, with all sense of forward-planning effectively removed.

For many of us, those things we look forward to the most such as summer holidays, birthday meals out with family, nights out with friends were all rendered irrelevant. There was no point in planning such occasions as we simply didn't know if they would be possible.

We're now getting more idea of what we are likely to be able to do for the next month or so. It's a small step, but it's step in the right direction at the very least.

It also means that we can tentatively look further ahead. For many students, September is very much on the horizon. It's a big month in the academic year, often signalling the start of something fresh: a new era in your education, new beginnings, new subjects, new surroundings and new friends.

With GCSE exams not taking place in 2020 we are offering a place to everyone who wants to start with us this September. That is our commitment to you.

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next week you can have a preview of what life at our Booth Lane, Lower Mounts or Daventry campuses could be like for you. Our first-ever virtual open events, powered by Zoom, will give you an opportunity to find out more about our courses, discover our first-class facilities and talk directly to the teachers who are waiting for you to join them in their classroom from September.

It's a chance for you to take the first tentative steps to emerge from the murky shadows of the COVID-19 lockdown into the glimmer of light that September promises to bring. It will be a new start for all of us, with new ways of working and new challenges to meet. We'd love you to join us on our journey.
