An engineering student is hoping to kick-start an attempt break the land speed record on a motorbike he has designed and built himself as part of his course at Northampton College.

dsc 0010Levi Medina is confident the bike will reach speeds of more than 240 miles per hour during testing at the former RAF Elvington site in Yorkshire as part of next year's Speed Week' ' setting a new landmark figure for the standing quarter mile, flying quarter mile and standing mile categories.

The three-stage process for building the bike will result in a two year project as part of the BTEC Level 3 course in mechanical engineering. The planning and research phase started last November and it is hoped that preliminary testing will be underway by Easter.
