Every year, we welcome University Level students from across the UK. Many of our students also come from Northampton and the surrounding towns and villages.

Students of all ages, including those leaving school sixth forms and completing Level 3 programmes at the college, can join us at University Level to continue their studies further. A number of students on these programmes are adults returning to education, with a clear idea of the career path they want to pursue, so there is always a good mix of ages and backgrounds in our higher level programmes.

Industry links

We have developed strong links with a range of external organisations and regularly host workshops and visiting lecturer events with professionals from relevant industries. Our university level students also benefit from opportunities for work experience and live briefs with highly regarded local employers.

Flexible learning

Our University Level programmes are flexible, available as full-time programmes but also as part-time spread over three or four years depending on your circumstances. The way you choose to study can be discussed with staff before you enrol, and fees charged will reflect how you attend college.

Timetables are made up of taught sessions (both classroom-based and online) and self-study periods in which you work unsupervised in workrooms and studios. You are also expected to conduct research and prepare for lessons outside of class. Some courses, including our part time HNCs and Higher Level Apprenticeships, can be taught in your place of work with time spent in college to top up your knowledge.

Student voice

We actively seek the views of our students and appreciate regular, honest feedback. Student representatives meet regularly to discuss the curriculum, as well as attending University Level Academic Board meetings to report on the student experience, ensuring students are heard at all levels.

There are also regular feedback sessions with our Quality team to discuss your course, and opportunities to take part in national surveys and reviews which help shape higher level provision nationally.

Following previous student feedback, we have:

  • Improved links with the careers team
  • Developed online access to external examiners’ reports
  • Provided additional access to professional facilities outside of class time
  • Created more ‘live briefs’ and work experience opportunities
