Two Northampton College students have won a regional competition to create an activity for pre-school children - with an intricate bug hotel aimed at encouraging little ones to embrace nature.
T Level students Raven Bone and Nevaeh Evans were named the winners of the South-East Midlands Inter-College competition held at Central Bedfordshire College.
The pair pitched their concept to a panel of ‘dragons’ - outlining how the bug hotel supports development, is inclusive and adaptable and how it promotes wellbeing, creativity, or learning.
They also had to explain the resources required to create the activity, including sustainable or low-cost options, and list the Health and Safety and risk considerations.
Andrea Brown, Assistant Principal Academic & Professional Studies at Northampton College, said: “The work Raven and Nevaeh put into this project was incredible and the judges were understandably impressed by their research, creativity and commitment to giving young children a fun and rewarding experience with the bug hotel.
“The standard throughout the competition was extremely high so to have our students come out on top is brilliant news and a real feather in their cap. The girls should be so proud of everything they have achieved and it bodes well for their future careers.”
