An Apprenticeship, also known as a job with training, is a good way to earn money in a real job while you learn and gain a valued qualification at the same time.
Most of the training is on-the-job, working with a mentor to learn job specific skills in the workplace. You will also be required to cover 20% of your contracted working hours as Off The Job (OTJ) training. This may be delivered away from the workplace, e.g. in college through 'day release' arrangements.
Apprenticeships can take from 12 months to four years to complete. There are three levels of Apprenticeships:
All Apprenticeship starts from 1 August 2020 will be on new standards, which have been designed in collaboration with employers, to ensure apprentices learn industry relevant skills while completing their qualification.
Apprenticeship standards begin with a foundation phase, which includes the development of skills, knowledge and behaviours. Towards the end of the qualification, all apprentices must take an end point assessment.
